When was the last time you actually let your mind run wild and dreamed of the life you actually want to live? And no, I don’t mean those dreams that sneak up on you when you’re sleeping, ’cause if you’re like me, you never remember those. I’m talking about the dreams you used to dream in your quiet, secret places. The dreams of the places you wanted to go, the things you wanted to accomplish, the person you wanted to be. You know, the ones you tucked away to be responsible, or safe, or level-headed. Whatever the reason, and I’m sure you had your reasons, I’m not here to judge. I am just here to remind you that they don’t have to stay tucked away.
What if you found some quiet time, got some lofi music going, lit some candles, got cozy and pulled them out and dusted them off? I bet you there was freedom and magic in those dreams that transported you to a place where you believed you could do or be anything you wanted. Don’t you want that back? That feeling of limitless possibility?
Was the dream a particular type of career?
Was it travel?
Was it the way you showed up in the world whether physically or emotionally?
Maybe it was a business or pursuing a passion?
Here is the thing, whatever that dream was it doesn’t have to stay locked away. Hear me out. You can pull it out, and put it some place where you can see it every day and honor it as a part of you that is maybe pulling you to your purpose. You can erite it doen, or get picture that reminds you of it. Long before I lived near the beach I had a picture of a house at the beach on my bedroom wall. I never stopped dreaming even when I didn’t know how I was going to make it happen. Because life is more than checking off the task list, showing up for everybody, fussing about what we aren’t happy about and accumulating material things.
Life is all about having a purpose, right? And for most of us, those dreams we had were guiding us towards our purpose. So, why not take that dream out and give it some air today? I bet it’ll start twirling around in your mind, and before you know it, opportunities will crop up, nudging you to start taking steps towards making that dream a reality. I mean, let’s be real, it’s not going to be a walk in the park, and it might not happen overnight – which is totally okay. But let me tell you from my own experience, the world needs you and your purpose. If the world didn’t need it, it wouldn’t be your purpose, your talent, your skill. Keeping it all to yourself is just keeping those around you from the amazing gift you have to offer.

A couple weeks back, I dug up some writing from my college days. Man, I forgot how much emotion I used to pour onto the page. It’s like a part of me that I totally pushed aside. Honestly, I kinda let it slide because life got crazy with all the to-dos and adulting. But reading those thirty-year-old pieces brought me back to who I really am. I’ve always had something to say. And let me tell you, I’ve never held back, whether it’s through writing or my big mouth. But this is different, reclaiming this lost piece of myself has totally reignited my spark. It has inspired me to be bold and allow myself at my big age to keep dreaming, which is why I write this blog and coach women.
I’m all about empowering my fellow women, especially those who’ve been historically marginalized. I am on mission to get us to dust off those dreams, and start talking about them. Even if it’s just to ourselves in the mirror!
Everyone’s all hyped about hustling and securing the bag, but seriously, when was the last time someone asked you about your wildest dreams? Or when did you last ask yourself? I’m telling you, stifling your dreams is like stifling your own fabulousness. Personally, I wasn’t put on this earth to live a half-baked, mundane life. Nope! I was put here to make an impact and shift the atmosphere when I show up just by being myself. And let’s face it, without my dreams, I’m definitely not the full me. I am just a facsimile of myself going through the motions. I don’t want that for me, and I definitely don’t want it for you.
So, what do you say? Let’s dust off the dreams and live our true authentic lives. I am not promising material wealth, but the joy and the sense of purpose you will find are unparalleled. It is a liberation that is absolutely worth it.
What dreams you’re dusting off? How it makes you feel to liberate those dreams and let them breathe again?
